If things are meant to be..
A friend spoke recently of the BS he considers this statement to be. ‘We all have a lot to do with our current situation,’ he said; and with that I agree. We cannot anticipate another’s interpretations of our actions or absence of actions. This becomes increasingly apparent as we arrange ourselves with those from different places, different cultures, different preferences. And...

My friends inspire me...
I say friends, and I do consider that true, but I feel guilty for not having seen John in years, though I have fond memories and truly enjoy reading his insights. And so, I write mine. I’ve been ‘intervened’ by close friends suggesting that others potentially do not have the same perspective of me as I think they might. I was turned down by a fellowship program offered by my...

Touching the Void: The Harrowing First Person...
This is an amazingly quick read; and dense. If you’re into the outdoorsy, climbing thing, I recommend this book to get your blood moving at times when you can’t exactly jump ship and fly to Peru. The overall story is an amazing one of endurance, persistance, and survival. Imagine belaying your descending partner using only a ditch in the snow! My favourite anecdote from the book is...

Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonegut
It was every you’d hoped it was. You read this in high school, and remember it being actually pretty decent compared to all the other crap they make you read. And then years later you re-read it. And actually, it is good. So it goes. The Tralfamadorians are where it’s at. That, and the exhibit girlfriend, the time travelling. Imagine what we could do if we had such imaginations…

The Alphabet from A to Y With Bonus Letter Z! by...
This is clearly a children’s book, which may be the precise reason I loved it so much. Martin is a whit. I’ve recently read of an artist who likes boundaries, because without boundaries…an individual is overwhelmed with possibility. This possibility freezes the subject, nothing gets done. With limits, creativity thrives. With limits, there’s a box which we can think outside...
